If you are ever stuck in the JFK airport for an afternoon layover, I highly recommend taking a quick detour over to the TWA Hotel. Within 15 minutes, you’ll be stepping into a replica of the 60’s that will nearly leave you in an architectural trance. The Eero Saarinen building, original built as a terminal in 1962 then renovated into a hotel in 2019, leaves no experiential detail untouched - while you are here, chat with flight attendants dressed in vintage costumes, order a martini from a sunken, velvet lobby or a converted Starliner plane, take a dip in a pool that overlooks the JFK runways, or read an old newspaper to the sound an epic oldies playlist and a vintage train board clicking away information about the day. It will feel like time is truly escaping from underneath your feet - don’t forget to catch your flight!

Project details
Originally built in 1962, by Eero Saarinen
Sat mostly unused - design for smaller planes
Rights to terminal bought in 2015
Opened as hotel in 2019
